This is a 5th generation family owned business that began in 1917. When John and Molly Wolfe opened the first store Woodrow Wilson was the President of the United States and WWI was still raging.

The original store was two blocks west at the intersection of Foothill and Indian Hill Boulevards. That store also had a couple of gas pumps out front to serve the few automobiles that happened by or grocery shoppers who also need gas.

In the mid-1930s the business moved two blocks to this 1927 building at Foothill and Harvard because the view of the mountains was better.

When the business hit 100 years old in 2017 they dropped the groceries and focused on being a deli and catering. In the former produce section is a mural of Claremont landmarks by Jeff Faust. The motto of the company "Quality and Service since 1917!" is still in use.

xThe big neon sign dates back to the 1950s or 60s. When the business change to deli and catering in 2017 the name and the sign that goes with it were kept.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
