The sign outside says "since 1978" but the restaurant was around since the early 1950's as Lynn's Broiler before becoming the Wagon Wheel in 1978. As is typical of Route 66 dining spots the portion sizes here seem to be determined by how much food can be piled on a plate and delivered to the hungry diner. They also have a small gift shop with a variety of Route 66 goodies.

Jimmy Jackson became the owner in 1978, refurbished the place and changed the name to the Wagon Wheel Restaurant. Mike Dick and Susan Alexis bought the restaurant in 2005 and kept the name. The menu was designed by Bob Waldmire who also illustrated a postcard featuring the restaurant.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
