This former and long closed Mr. Swiss Restaurant is located at 635 - 7th Ave. W. (Seventh Street & Sergeant Ave.). It was the Route 66 Preservation Project during the 2013 Route 66 International Festival in Joplin. Mr. Swiss sold hamburgers, sandwiches and ice cream along with fries and various drinks.

Hugh Hills opened the Mr. Swiss franchise in April 1967 and he and his family ran it for 20 years, first as a Mr. Swiss and then as Hillbilly Hills. The restaurant closed in 1987. Several businesses have occupied the site since then but it was empty when this photo was taken in August of 2013.

This property was a used car dealership in the fall of 2016.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
