According to county property records this small building was built in 1925. In 1936 it was listed as a stone building with open porch/canopy in front. This makes me think it was originally a gas station with a covered pump drive. That space between the column in front and the original building has been enclosed, which is easy to see in these photos by the dark colored section of the lower wall. The original building starts where the dark color ends. The building is located at Broadway St.& Galena Ave.

x In 1949 it was Broadway Poultry Company, In 1955 the front canopy had been enclosed and in 1956 it was Harper's Barbecue. It was also Betty Lee's Antiques and as late as 2013 it was Twin Towers Barber Shop. The building has seen at least one and maybe two additions, the shed roof sections on the rear and east sides.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
