Sunset Motel
427 Highway AT, Villa Ridge, MO
Phone:
Some sources say the Lovelace family built the 12-unit Sunset Motel in
1945. Other sources say it was built in the early 50s. The Lemmons mentioned
on the postcard below became the owners at some point, but when? Each
unit had two doors, one opening to the lawn and the other to the parking
lot behind the building. The sign is one of the must stop photo opportunities
for many Route 66 travelers.

In 2009 the building was reroofed and the wonderful neon sign relit
with the help of a grant from the Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program
and funds invested by the building owner.

NOTE: Apparently the main amenity here was that the place was
quiet. That's probably because it is set back from the road.
