How old is this house, which is now a museum, may depend on who you ask,
but there's no question it's very old building. Using carbon dating, the
structure reportedly dates back to the 1200s. According to the sign out
front the museum dates the building to around 1646. Tree-ring specimens
taken from the vigas or ceiling beams of the lover rooms of the two-story
adobe house show a cutting date of 1740-1767.
         The
second floor on the west section of the house was in such bad shape
in the early 1900s that it was removed. It was replaced several years
later when the house was renovated.
         There
are a couple of rooms that visitors can walk through that are packed
with historic artifacts or replicas to give some idea of what early
life was like in the house.
         There's
a little oven at the bottom of the stairs.
