East < GO > West

Opened in 1946 and later became the Pinon Motel. It has had several owners over the years. It is now the Pinon Motel and Apartments. The Pinon is the New Mexico state tree and its nuts were once a staple of the Southwestern Indian diet.

Here's a kind of fun fact, in 1967 the motel received a "Civic Beauty Citation" for it's lighted island and animal statues.

The motel was known as the Pinon Motor lodge in the late 1950s and early 1960s. In the early 1970s the name changed to the Pinon Motel, I'm guessing that came with a change in ownership.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
