Triangle Motel, Amarillo, TX7954 Amarillo Boulevard East., Amarillo, TXPhone:
There were six guest suites in the north building and four guest suites plus a staff suite in the south building. Nine of the guest suites had two rooms and a tiled bath, one had a single room and tiled bath. The large courtyard contained a fountain, picnic tables and chairs for lounging. East of the courtyard was a playground, with a teeter totter, merry-go-round, swings and horseshoe-court, All in all, it was quite a place for the time.
The white building was the Triangle Service Station, a gas station and service garage. On the west end of that building was a sort of triangle shaped office, gone now, with gas pumps on both sides, all under a large canopy. That whole building also had a flat roof. The street in the foreground is Triangle Drive which used to be Route 66 before it was realigned onto Amarillo because airport expansion cut off the old road. The street behind the white building is Amarillo Blvd. which is part of the Route 66 realignment around the airport. ----------
NICE DINING ROOM. GOOD BEDS. WHITE TILE REST & BATH
NOTE: These early postcards shows the restaurant building with
the original style flat roof and the Triangle shaped sign on top. The
promotional text on the back of the card is pretty brief: Photo(s): 2015

This sign marks the motel entrance from Amarillo Blvd. It looked like
most, if not all, of the neon tubing was gone from the signs.
An identical sign is located on Amarillo next to the motel shop/garage
at the northeast corner corner of the property. Until 1956 this sign
stood next to the office at the entrance from Triangle Dr.
The garages can be seen in this photo. It looks like four garages each
served two rooms and two garages served one each.
The
motel office is at the west end of the building adjacent to Triangle
Dr. The "Office" sign can be seen on the end of the building.
The motel is hidden behind the trees on the right in this photo. The
building in the middle is now a bar, but used to be the Triangle Cafe.
Originally the roof was flat with a large rotating triangle shaped sign
above it, the hip roof was added in 2007.

Did
You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane
road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned
lanes are still there.
