Texola, OK

For nearly 50 years Route 66 ran right through Texola before bypassing the town in 1975 when I-40 opened north of town. The town went from a population of 581 people in 1930 to just 36 in 2010.

xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
